Nankeen Kestrel

Nankeen Kestrel

Nankeen Kestrels mostly eat grasshoppers and other very small creatures, not mice but like most raptors, they take anything that comes along. There seems to be a pattern of territorial division between the two small, hovering grassland raptors: some places usually have Black-shouldered Kites, other places, apparently much the same to human eyes, are kestrel territory. There is probably an underlying reason.
