I have always admired this lovely old bridge over Angellala Creek (a Warrego tributory) on the Mitchel Highway south of Charleville, and (safety permitting) always slow down to admire it as I go past. Luckily, I stopped to take this picture in December 2010.
Earlier today (2023) I was looking to find it on a map before posting the picture (as I do with every picture). To my horror I discovered that it no longer exists. It was completely destroyed in 2014 by a massive explosion following a truck rollover. Miraculously, no-one was killed, but the historic and beautiful iron bridge has been replaced by another one of those awful pre-stressed concrete things loved by government beancounters and hated, or at best ignored, by everyone else.
