For some reason the Yarrowee River which flows through Ballarat changes its name some kilometres south of Bunninyong. After the junction with Williamson’s Creek, it becomes the Leigh River, which flows on south to join the Barwon not far from here.
This picture is also significant to me as almost the last one I ever took with my wonderful old Canon 20D. What a gem of a camera! I bought it in 2005 and used it for everything. As time went by it was pushed out of use as my primary birding camera by a series of newer models, but soldiered on doing landscapes, and eventually doing wide-angle work (my usual employment for an old camera not too far from being pensioned off).
Canon designed the 20D shutter for 100,000 actuations. I did an extraordinary 170,000 on this one before the shutter blew. Then I shipped it off to Canon in Sydney for a new shutter and on this day in 2013 the new shutter had clocked up another 130,000 or so. I took this shot and two more a few moments afterwards, then it finally gave out. What a magnificent camera it was.
