Through the rain and mist we see construction finally start on the new dock for the Spirit of Tasmania.
The new, much larger Spirits were ordered in 2017, cancelled and re-ordered in 2020, cancelled again and re-ordered in 2021 for delivery in 2024. Nobody bothered to wonder if the new ships would fit in the existing dock until the Spirit IV was already finished and the Spirit V well underway.
Here we see construction of the new dock finally starting in December 2024. It is not expected to be completed until 2027. Meanwhile, the two new ships are costing a fortune and rusting at anchor.
