Striated Fieldwren

Striated Fieldwren

I have never seen so many heathwrens and fieldwrens in one place! Every hundred metres or so there seemed to be another pair; most were apparently Shy Heathwrens but at least some were a different Hylacola or Calamanthus species. HANZAB records all four in the Messent area, though with doubts about some records. This is also the region where the coastal Striated Fieldwren intergrades with the inland Rufous Fieldwren, making the whole concept of "species" rather wooly. Anyway, I’ve put this pretty little thing down as a Striated Fieldwren, but I may be wrong.
