About 20 minutes south of Townsville, you will find the grandly-named "Mountain View Lake Eco Tourist Park", not far from the town of Giru. The park is anything but grand — but if there is a better place for birdwatching anywhere south of Cairns, I’d like to hear about it. I never go past Giru without staying for a few days. Any time of year is good, but late in the dry season is best.
