I suppose protein is protein, but I was astonished to discover this normally vegetarian Purple Swamphen happily tucking into a small Redfin Perca fluviatilis on the edge of the lake. I don’t imagine it caught the fish for itself, but it was quite proprietorial with the carcass, and as you can see, not shy about eating it.
