In 2003 I bought a small digital camera and a spotting scope. This was called ’digiscoping’, in those days it offered an affordable but not very practical way to take pictures of birds. It was slow and tedious and the picture quality is very poor by today's standards, but it soon became a passion. I made various short trips, notably to the Coorong, and my first long field trip up through NSW to far northern Quensland, the Gulf, and the Top End.
